By maturing the liquid in small batches in five unique casks, the subsequent liquid is rich, complex, varied and above all storied. Laphroaig Lore uses different aged liquids ranging from 7 to 21 years, allowing the distillery to create the richest possible Laphroaig flavour. The result is a whisky full of smokey richness with perhaps a tiny chilli bite on the back.
From a storm-lashed island off the west coast of Scotland comes Laphroaig – pronounced la-froygÂ, a Gaelic word meaning beautiful hollow by the broad bayÂ. Since 1815, when the distillery was officially founded on Islay (eye-laÂ), a small team of islanders have combined ancient skills, a dedication to quality and the soft, peaty water of the Kilbride Stream to create what is considered to be one of the most distinctive single malts in the world. Laphroaig is an acquired taste for some, an essential taste for many and for those who embrace it, a friend for life.
