It’s thousands of years old

Thousands of years ago, the Aztecs creates a bitter beverage known as ‘xocoatl’ which was usually made with chillies, water and corn and sold warm rather than hot. It wasn’t until the Spanish got hold of the recipe that they decided to adapt the ingredients by adding sugar and cinnamon to sweeten things up a little. Over the centuries, it has developed into the delicious, sweet beverage we know and love today.
 

It was believed to be a medicine

While you may resort to a hot chocolate when you’re sad or down, it was once believed to have genuine medical purposes to treat illnesses. The pure cacao drink produced with high in calories and antioxidants and a shot of caffeine which was believed to have healing properties.
